“New Paradigms for Design” is the theme of the IDSA Midwest District Design Conference, April 19-20, in Indianapolis. IDSA is the voice of the industrial design profession.

The proliferation of new models for design practice makes this an exciting time for designers. Business is changing and with it so are our roles and relationships with manufacturing and distribution, funding models, entrepreneurs and our interaction with the people who use the products, services and experiences that we create. By shifting to a paradigm of direct collaboration between designer and end user, the result is a change in how we design and new opportunities for collaboration.

With these new and evolving paradigms in place, how can we best fulfill the consumer’s needs and desires? How do our new relationships with manufacturing and distribution, funding models, entrepreneurs and special interests affect the way we design? And what does it all mean for us moving forward?

We will explore the New Paradigms for Design and consider the rich new possibilities. We will examine some tough questions and pose tangible options for your success and design’s future. You deserve to be part of the conversation, and it will be a Doozie.

As with previous conferences, this will be the largest District Design Conference with over 500 designers, business professionals and design students attending.  It’s a great opportunity to hear some stimulating speakers, enjoy some workshops, see exhibits from our sponsors and to mingle and chat about design with passionate participants. You will also have a chance to spend time in Indianapolis, one of the fastest changing cities in the US, famous for the Brickyard and now the Superbowl.

The conference will feature workshops and introductory speakers on Friday, and the majority of speakers on the Saturday along with the Student Merit Award presentations. Speakers will give 20-minute talks in a single track allowing you to hear all the presentation without having to choose. And of course, there will be events on both nights and opportunities for interesting excursions around the city.
